I have owned and loved many dogs during my lifetime but never so sweet and gentle a soul as he was.

I first met Henry in February 2004 when I was working as a vet tech at a local veterinary hospital. He had been purchased out of the back of a van by a very nice Hispanic lady who was a single mom to two children. He was extremely shy (probably had been stolen by the person who had the van full of dogs), and had a very dry eye and very little hair. The lady wanted to know why he had both of these conditions. The doctor explained that he had a condition commonly known as dry-eye, and that he was a Chinese Crested breed, hence the mostly bald body.
The following week she brought him in with a broken leg. She said that he had jumped or fell off of the bed, and that she could not afford the surgery to repair his leg, so she was going to surrender him to a rescue group that the veterinarian worked closely with. I took him instead, and that was the beginning of a wonderful eleven years of sharing life with my pet soul-mate.
This wonderful little dog got me through the death of my father, the death of my late husband, the loss of my job, and countless other life problems.
In September of 2014, he began having sinus problems, which was eventually diagnosed to be a fungal infection in his upper nasal passages. I spent over $12,000.00 on diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments, only to have him die because the veterinarian on duty at the specialty hospital where he stayed overnight for observation after an anti-fungal treatment did not give him the attention that he needed and deserved. He died as a consequence of aspiration pneumonia.
My heart is broken beyond repair. If he had been given proper care he would still be with me today. Almost three months have passed since his death, and I am still as grief-stricken as I was on the night that he died. He is my special angel waiting for me on the other side of The Bridge. For now I hold him close in my heart until the day when I can once again hold him in my arms. Rest in peace, sweet Henry. You will never be forgotten.
