Age 12, March 19, 2003 - January 17, 2015

Otis was a very special golden - loved lettuce, was nephew to our Benji.

Nickname: Ody, Otang, Tang

As you can imagine, losing our next golden retriever, Otis (nephew of our favorite - Benji) was a harrowing experience. Otis was our little angel - was a gentle soul, taken advantage of by the other dogs in the house, with the exception of his late uncle Benji. He accepted all food given to him and appreciated every morsel but his all time favorite was his lettuce. He would sit by the fridge and look directly in my eyes and bark to tell me to open up and get him his lettuce. He also would grab one of his many football men which he understood was his Teddy each time he was happy, especially when we came home. Then he would go around the house and make a Grr sound with the teddy (football stuffed toy) in his mouth and his tail would wag - it was hard like a baseball bat when it wagged.

Suddenly, in November 2013 Otis began having trouble breathing. We had his abdomen and chest drained of fluid and an ultrasound showed an inoperable hemangiosarcoma on his heart. We were given to understand that he would live another 1-3 months. Otis actually lived for 14 months but the last 2 months he suffered terribly. We thought that he had just gone blind from cataracts. But the last 2 weeks of his life proved otherwise. He had a grand mal seizure and then another one which left him without recognition of anyone. We were told that his hemangiosarcoma from the heart had spread to his brain.

Unfortunately he is with us no longer but at least he is not suffering anymore. We miss you terribly Otis. You were the most kindly soul of any dog we have ever owned and will probably never have another as sweet and beautiful both inside and outside as you were. We will miss you always and you will always remain in our hearts - Shina Family
