Several years ago we received Rusty as a stray. My son had saved him on a highway while working selling meat. We kept saying we would find a home for him, as we already had a chow. They became friends except Simba made sure Rusty knew he was the boss. Rusty was clearly taller than Simba. Rusty lost his friend on April 1st, 2009, and life was never the same. It was very lonely without Simba, but Rusty still remained friendly. He didn't smile as much. Rusty was so nice to everyone, even the kitten we brought home in June 2010. All Rusty wanted to do was eat, sleep and be touched by everyone. He slowly started losing his balance in his hips then would have to drag his back half around without ever yelping (and he was a very heavy dog). August 4, 2010, he stopped breathing. We had Rusty cremated, and he is now next to his friend, Simba, in his own, pretty cedar box. I will never forget him.
